Communities moving trick-or-treat hours to Friday

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

Mother Nature's autumn tricks have local communities moving the treats back one day.

Trick-or-treating hours, originally scheduled for Halloween night around the county, are being moved to Friday in a number of local communities. The late change is due to the threat of inclement weather.

All incorporated communities in Putnam County will be moving their trick-or-treating hours to Friday, Nov. 1.

The schedule is as follows:

-- Cloverdale -- 6-8:30 p.m.

-- Roachdale -- 6-8 p.m.

-- Fillmore -- 5-8 p.m.

-- Greencastle -- 4-8 p.m. (including downtown trick-or-treat event from 4-6 p.m.).

-- Bainbridge -- 7-9 p.m. (Note the time change to accommodate the Bainbridge Elementary School fall festival at 5:30 p.m.)

-- Russellville -- 6-8 p.m.

As is the custom locally, residents welcoming trick-or-treaters are urged to turn on a porch light during the appropriate period. Likewise, Halloween revelers are asked to skip homes without an outside light illuminated.

Weather forecasts for Thursday show a 100-percent chance of rain with rainfall of more than half an inch possible. Winds will be from the south at 15 to 25 MPH with gusts up to 35 mph.

Moving into the night, the rain could turn to storms.
