Residents urged to plug into Emergency Notification System

Thursday, October 31, 2013

It recently came to the attention of Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray that few local residents have taken advantage of the county's Emergency Notification System.

During a recent natural gas leak in the city, residents in the affected area who were registered with the Emergency Notification System were notified of the situation and how to respond to it.

"The system is a significant tool in keeping our citizens safe," Mayor Murray said. "It is important that more citizens sign up to receive such vital information."

To sign up to receive emails, cell phone calls or texts, go to the Putnam County 911 website at http://co.putnam.in.us/911/index.html and click on "register cell phones and email for our dial-up Emergency Notification System" on the lower right side of the screen.

Persons desiring more information may contact Dave Costin, director of the Putnam County 911 and Putnam County Emergency Management Agency, at 653-5115, Ext. 100.

  • How did we ever survive before this program started? Is this one of these programs that requires more participation to justify it's existence? I probably think this is a waste of our time and money!
