Putnam County fall property taxes due Nov. 12

Sunday, November 3, 2013

Putnam County Treasurer Sharon Owens reminds taxpayers that the fall installment for property tax is due Tuesday, Nov. 12.

As has been the case in the past, tax payments may be made in one of four ways -- mailed to the treasurer, in person at the treasurer's office, at one of several local banks or online with a credit or debit card.

Payments may be mailed to: Putnam County Treasurer, P.O. Box 508, Greencastle, IN 46135.

All payments if mailed must be postmarked by Nov. 12 to avoid a late penalty charge.

For in-person payments, the Putnam County Treasurer's Office is located on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse. It is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Participating banks accepting payments are Old National Bank, First National Bank, North Salem State Bank and Tri-County Bank. In order for the banks to process the payment, residents must provide their fall tax statement.

Credit or debit card payments may be made at www.putnamtax.net or by calling 1-800-809-5849. There is a processing fee for the online or phone payment option.

No credit or debit card payments are accepted in the treasurer's office.

The Treasurer's Office will also accept partial payments, but there will be a penalty added after the due date on the unpaid balance. Partial payments may be mailed or paid in the office for your convenience year round.

Heritage Lake property owners are also reminded if they have a November exceptional benefit payment, it is also due Nov. 12.

Anyone with questions may contact the Putnam County Treasurer's Office at treasurer@putnamcountyin.us or 653-4510.
