Energy assistance program under way for 2013-14 heating season

The Winter Heating Assistance Program of Western Indiana Community Action Agency Inc. is under way.

The program began for the 2013-14 season on Monday. Putnam County applications will be taken by appointment only, however, the appointment schedule is full through Thursday, Nov. 19, according to a message on the agency's answering machine.

All applicants must bring the following documentation in order to apply for assistance:

-- Verification of income for all household members for the past 12 months.

-- Social Security cards for all household members.

-- Current household heating and electric bills.

-- A copy of lease or rental agreement, if applicable.

To schedule an appointment, persons may call 653-4017. The office is located at 620 Tennessee St., Greencastle.

The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., closing for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
