Featured Athlete of the Week: Alex Basile, Basketball Greencastle High School

Alex Basile, 18, is a senior student-athlete at Greencastle High School. Basile has three siblings, Carl Basile (junior), Nick Sutherland (fifth grade) and Nathan Sutherland (kindergarten). Basile says that she enjoys listening to county and hip-hop and her favorite artist is Luke Bryan. She has been involved in basketball for four years, been a team captain the past two years and is in National Technical Honors Society. Basile formerly participated in varsity softball for two years and volleyball for three. Her favorite subject in school is math and favorite movie is Bad Grandpa. Her favorite color is turquoise and favorite food is fettuccine Alfredo.

Banner Graphic: When did you start playing basketball and who introduced you?
Alex Basile: I was eight and my parents introduced me.

BG: What is your training like?
AB: In summer, we have open gym every day and we play in basketball leagues. I lifted with a girl at DePauw for a while.

BG: Who has influenced you most in life?
AB: My parents because they have taught me that you have to work hard to get what you want.

BG: What are your team and individual goals this year?
AB: It's my senior year so I want to do the very best I possibly can and be a good team leader. My goal is 10 points a game and to get around four steals a game.

BG: Who is your favorite athlete and why?
AB: Jennie Finch. She does not play sports anymore but I used to love watching her play (softball).

BG: What life lessons have you learned from sports?
AB: It teaches you to always work hard and nothing ever comes easy in life at everything that you do to be the best person you can.

BG: How have your teammates influenced you and helped you along the way?
AB: My team and I are all really close and they have all been part of my life for four years now and they have all been there to support me. At the tough, hard practices we all have each other's backs. I love the teams I have been on and I am glad that I have able to be a part of it for four years.

BG: What are you plans after high school?
AB: I am attending University of Indianapolis and I am going undecided.
