MOORESVILLE -- Greencastle's wrestling squad opened the year as one of six participants at the Mooresville Super Six duels Saturday morning.

Shorthanded through numbers and practice restrictions, the Tiger Cubs fell in four of their five matches, nailing down their sole victory against Indianapolis George Washington 36-27.

Greencastle head coach Logan Kuhne said the meet was indicative of a group out on the mats for the first time this season.

"We're young, we're rusty and we've got some things to work on," Kuhne said. "I saw some moments of greatness and things that show where we want to be.

"There were also some moments where we were slow and showed we were still getting our legs back under us."

While the team struggled on the day, Tiger Cub 170-pounder Aaron Langdon tore through the available challengers, winning all five of his matches by pinfall and needing just over six minutes of time total to do so.

Riley Cook went 4-1 on the day, winning three matches by falls and losing only to Mooresville's Blake Davis by decision. Trae Carrington and Mark Coghill were both 3-2 at 120 and 220 pounds, respectively.

Kuhne said the performances on the day from Langdon and Cook boded well for both in the future.

"Obviously Aaron Langdon going 5-0 was a great day for him," Kuhne said. "He showed a lot of heart and a lot of hustle out there. Riley Cook also had a good day and his one loss was close. Both guys had good days but still have things to work on."

Greencastle opened the day with a loss to the hosts and team champion Pioneers 60-12 before picking up their win against George Washington.

The Tiger Cubs fell short against Tri-West 47-37 in a round where they won six of the seven matches wrestled but lost due to points through forfeits. Greencastle lost in the afternoon rounds to Plainfield 56-18 and Cascade 47-12.

While the day was not the best in terms of team results, Kuhne said the squad showed plenty of good things Saturday and plenty of things to improve upon before facing West Vigo after the Thanksgiving break.

"We saw some hustle and some intensity out there," Kuhne said. "We started to get on a roll and we need to continue that. We have West Vigo after Thanksgiving. It's always a close meet with them so we have a lot to do to get ready."
