Double PARP programs in Putnam County

Sunday, November 24, 2013

Harvest has just gotten done, so now a good time to think about your Private Applicators Recertification.

Two PARP programs are being offered in Putnam County. The first PARP is devoted to soil health and cover crops and is on Dec. 4, starting at 8:30 a.m. The second PARP is the Last Chance PARP of the season. This program will be on Dec, 11 and wills start at 12:30 p.m.

Both programs will take place in the York Automotive Group Community Building on the Putnam County Fairgrounds. The cost per program is $10.

Credit for completing this program will go toward filling the requirements for re-certification.

A PARP program is for people who already have completed their Private Applicators Certification.

If you are interested in obtaining the Private Applicators Certification it is necessary that you pass the Pesticide CORE exam. The Office of the Indiana State Chemists (OISC) administers this exam. The Private Applicators Certification is good for five years.

For more information about the exam, times, and locations contact the IOSC at phone number 765/494-1594, or online at the PARP website: ag.purdue.edu/extension/ ppp/Pages/default.aspx

For re-certification of the Private Applicators Certification, one has to attend three PARPs in a five year period or retake the CORE exam. If one chooses to do the PARPs, only two of the required three PARPs can be completed in any given year.

The third PARP must be completed in another year. For those of you who are technology savvy, there are online PARPs. Only one online PARP will be credited during the five years of a Private Applicators Certification.

Remember, a maximum of two PARPS (in the county or online) in a calendar year are eligible to receive re-certification credit. In addition, it is essential that the entire PARP be attended to obtain the credit for re-certification.

These programs are at least two hours long on a pesticide related topic. A private applicator can attend and receive credit for a PARP in any county.

PARP programs are a great way to keep up with current events in the pesticide world.

Dates and locations of other PARP programs are listed on the PARP website, advertised throughout the local county extension offices, or are available by phone at 800/319-3090. FYI- persons attending a PARP for credit will be expected to provide their signature, printed name, private applicators permit number or social security number on the attendance sheets.
