Tiger Cubs swim past Eagles
The Greencastle co-ed swim teams hosted South Putnam on Tuesday, cruising to comfortable wins in both the boys' and girls' team meets.
South Putnam was swimming on the second night of a back-to-back schedule, having raced at Tri-West on Monday with North Putnam.
It was the second meet of the season for most of the competitors, but the Greencastle boys' were in the pool for the first time.
"The boys were very solid on their first night out," GHS coach Kent Menzel said, "With lots of great swims all around. Senior Elliot Dunbar was particularly impressive with aggressive swims producing lifetime best times.
"The girls were similarly strong, again attacking the relays with enthusiasm. Corrie Romer was the main driver of the girls' bus, with excellent individual swims and solid relay performances."
Senior Rosio Gomez had two individual wins for the Tiger Cubs, in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle.
Junior Elijah Brattain won the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle.
Senior Tayler Arnold led the way for the Eagles. His wins in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke were the only first-place finishes for the SPHS boys.
Sophomore Maddison Plunkett had a diving win for the South Putnam girls' lone first-place.
The Eagles had success in Monday's races, coach Anna Kendall said. Plunkett won the diving that day as well. Senior Katie McHugh took first place in the 100 breaststroke.
In the boys' races Zane Crosby won the 100 free and the relay team of Zach Rayce, Ben Albright, Wyatt Nees and Crosby won the 200. Hunter Fields all set a personal best in the 100 back.
