Robert Lee Evans, 50, Lugoff, S.C., died on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013.

Born in Bainbridge, he was a son of the late Charles Edward and Mary Griebelbauer Evans.

A graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, he was a deputy sheriff with the Kershaw County Sheriff's Department and currently the school resource officer at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School.

He spent 20 years in law enforcement.

Mr. Evans was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church and a member of the Lugoff-Elgin football gameday operations crew. His passion was being the voice of the Demons, and loved the phrase "It's another Demon ... FIRST DOWN, Let's Move Those Chains."

He was an assistant coach for the basketball team and football team at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Beth Marie Evans, daughter Katelyn Evans of Lugoff; son Lee Evans of Lugoff, brother Russell Evans Sr. (Vicki) of Greencastle, sister Pamela Evans (Steven) of Wilmington, N.C., nephew Russell Evans Jr. (Shiloh), niece Jennifer Dunfee (Kenny) and numerous other nephews and nieces; and his beloved pets, Mo and Harley.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1 at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Albert Allen and the Rev. Greg Sweet will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff.
