Organizational meeting set Dec. 2 for GYC program cheerleader group

Friday, November 29, 2013

For a number of years, parents and fans of Greencastle Youth Football have noted the absence of cheerleaders at the Greencastle Youth Football games, all the while the majority of opposing teams in the conference have cheerleaders on their sidelines.

Thanks to the efforts of some Greencastle mothers, the void will be filled next season.

Amanda Dorsett, mother of two Greencastle Youth Football players, as well as a young daughter who will be on the sidelines in the coming years, is spearheading the effort to put together a new Greencastle Youth Cheerleading program.

Dorsett has consulted with leaders in the North Putnam program and hopes to build on their experience.

Key to the Greencastle Youth Cheerleading program's success is starting early to build a GYC Board including officers and chairpersons for fundraising and sponsorship.

Dorsett plans to hold fundraisers throughout the year and seek sponsorship for the program to help defer the cost of uniforms and keep the registration fees low.

An organizational meeting to elect officers and appoint chairpersons for the GYC program will be held on Monday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the Deer Meadow Primary School cafeteria.

Interested parents and supporters are invited to attend. Anyone with questions may contact amandaddorsett@yahoo.com.
