Jean Mildred Bennett

Jean Mildred Bennett, 93, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 in California after a brief illness.

She was born on Nov. 14, 1920 in Coatesville to Lee Orville and Agnes Minter Eastham. She was a graduate of Amo High School.

She was an accomplished pianist and vocalist and played the organ at the Coatesville United Methodist Church and sang with a DePauw University Choir.

She worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Co. and for banks in Coatesville and Greencastle.

Jean was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Delta Sigma Kappa sorority. She lived most of her life in Indiana but moved to Arizona after retirement, where she was a member of the Velda Rose United Methodist Church and a volunteer at the Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz.

She loved to travel and visited Europe, Central America and Africa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvine (Dan) Bennett.

She will be greatly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Myron and Sharyl Heavin in California and their three children, Bruce Heavin, Holley Steves and Kristie Nguyen, and four great-grandchildren; and by a daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Marvin Smitherman of Wisconsin and their two children, Todd Smitherman and Teri Slick.

Visitation will take place from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at Bousley-Hays Funeral Home, Coatesville, with burial in the Coatesville Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to charity.
