CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The North Putnam boys' and girls' swimming and diving teams competed at Southmont on Tuesday with the NPHS boys coming out with a 78-16 win and the girls lost close, 54-40.

Senior Dane Gray set a school record in the 100 breaststroke, winning in a time of 1:07.97. Swim records tend to be set later in the season, making the feat more impressive.

Other winners for the Cougars' boys team include Jonah Creamean in the 200 free and 100 fly, Andy Rogers in the 200 individual medley, Nick Kaufman in the 50 free, Trevor Troyer in the 100 free and Joe Davis in the 500 free.

The Cougars swept the three relay events, with Gray, Troyer, Kaufman, Rogers, Nick Young, Cameron McPherson, Nick Ballard and Creamean participating.

"As a coach I am happy with the progress we are making," NPHS coach Tony Gray said. "I practiced the kids really hard (Monday), and in the morning of the meet, so the kids were tired but rose to the occasion and turned in an amazing 29 lifetime-bests on the boys' side alone.

"The underclassmen are starting to figure things out and are contributing in a big way."

On the girls' side, Gray said the top performers for North Putnam were junior Elizabeth Alford, who won the 200 IM, and Mackenzie Miles for her swims in the 50 free and 400 free relay.

Nikita Miller and Rebecca Muse also stood out, Gray said.

"The girls squad is really starting to prosper and have figured out what it takes to be competitive on a varsity level," he said. "The girls were really tired but found a way to turn in 16 lifetime-best swims on the night."

The Cougars are back in action Saturday in a three team meet at South Vermillion that also will include Edgewood.
