ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam boys' and girls' swim teams both picked up victories against visiting West Vigo on Monday. The girls won 114-41 and the boys won 114-71.

The swim of the night for the girls, NPHS coach Tony Gray said, were Rorie Buchanan and Samantaha Freije, who dropped 16 and 11 seconds in their 500 frees, respectively.

Picking up individual wins for the girls were Elizabeth Alford in the 200 free, Sierra Livesay in the 50 free, Nikita Miller in the 100 free, Samantha Freije in the 500 free, Hannah Gray in the 100 backstroke and Lauren Freije in the 100 breaststroke.

Combining for a sweep in the relays were Gray, Lyndsay Roberts, Livesay, Rebecca Muse, Miller and Alford.

"The girls have achieved their goal of winning more meets this year than the last five years combined, so I am very happy for them," Gray said.

For the boys, Gray said the top swimmer was Joe Davis, who had a huge drop in time in his 500 free win.

Other winners for the boys' team were Jonah Creamean in the 200 free and 100 fly, Dane Gray in the 200 IM and 100 back, Nick Kaufman in diving and the 50 free and Trevor Troyer in the 100 free.

"I am really happy with our progress so far," Gray said. "The freshmen and sophomores are making a big impact on both the girls' and boys' teams.

"... I was satisfied with our times tonight since we are in an extremely hard cycle of training right now, and all the kids are swimming extremely tired."

The Cougars are in action at home Thursday night against Greencastle, beginning at 6 p.m.
