Tiger Cubs fall at Bloomington South

Greencastle JV beats Rockville

The Greencastle junior varsity girls' basketball team improved to 5-3 on the season with a 25-11 victory against Rockville on Thursday.

The Tiger Cubs were led by sophomore Bethanie Burgeson, who poured in 10 points and made five-of-six free throws.

Greencastle took a six-point lead at halftime and expanded on it in the third quarter.

Mia Stevens finished with six points for the Tiger Cubs, followed by four from Lexee Miller, three from Emma Taylor and two from Gracie Smith.

Rockville's co-leaders were Jayci Wicker and Sydney Secuskie, who both had four. Rockville.............2 4 2 3 -- 11

BLOOMINGTON -- The Greencastle girls' basketball team took a first-quarter lead before stumbling at Bloomington South on Saturday, losing 48-23

The Tiger Cubs (7-5, 1-0 West Central) were playing their third game of the week and came out sharp, jumping out to a 9-8 lead after the first quarter.

The Panthers came out to play in the second. Bloomington South put Greencastle away with a 20-1 scoring binge in second quarter that the Tiger Cubs had no answer for.

GHS battled close in the third before the teams settled in for a quick fourth.

Junior Jessica Lenihan led the Tiger Cubs with seven points. Sophomore Allison White had six points and senior Alex Basile had five.

Mackenzie McNew led the charge for Bloomington South.

She scored 11 of her game-high 16 in the second quarter to put the Tiger Cubs away.

Lauren Whitlock had 11 for the Panthers and Jacqueline Forney had nine.

Greencastle is off until it plays at Owen Valley on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 12:30 p.m.
