Christmas tree recycling available through Jan. 25 at yard waste site

Tuesday, December 24, 2013

Putnam County residents can recycle their Christmas trees from Dec. 26 through Jan. 25 at the Greencastle Yard Waste Site, 2362 S. CR 250 West, the West Central Solid Waste District has announced.

All decorations, lights and the tree stand must be removed. No plastic bags or coverings should be left behind.

No artificial trees can be recycled.

By recycling their Christmas trees, residents can help divert them from the landfill, while providing a natural habitat for fish and wildlife, aid in erosion control and provide mulch for landscaping.

The Greencastle site is located west of Manhattan Road, just past the police firing range on the left side of the road along CR 250 West.

Another location is available at Lieber State Recreation Area, off State Road 243 near Cloverdale. The drop-off is in the office parking lot near the park entrance.
