Naomi Jane Elliott, 85, of Avon, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at Indianapolis Methodist Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Aug. 27, 1928 in New Albany to the late Frank and Vada Jane Baker.

Her family moved to Bainbridge in her youth, where she graduated from high school in 1946. She was a proud cheerleader for the Bainbridge Pointers and represented her school and state in numerous baton twirling contests.

On April 29, 1946, she married Phillip Elliott. They eventually relocated to the Greencastle area after completion of his military service, where they raised their four children.

Jane was active in the local Girl and Boy Scout troops, the Methodist church and local school programs. In 1968, her husband's employment with IBM took the family to Ridgewood, N.J., where they spent the next 17 years. They moved back to Avon, Ind. upon her husband's retirement.

She enjoyed playing board games and she and her husband competed in bridge tournaments throughout the Midwest. She loved music and dance and would often break out into song, a love she passed on to her children.

Jane is remembered for an easy smile, infectious laugh and mischievous nature.

Jane is survived by her husband of 67 years, Phillip; her children, Mark and his wife Janet of Naples, Fla., Andrea of Mebane, N.C. Steven and his wife, Gerri of Los Gatos, Calif. and Rebecca of Avon; grandchildren Jennifer, Jeffrey, Robert, Scott and Jessica; great-grandchildren Lilly, William and Grady; sister Sharon Austin and her husband Bill of Bainbridge; sister Sandra O'Hair and her husband Max of Morton; brother Jeral Baker and his wife, Shirley of Bainbridge; and brother Dale Baker and his wife Maryanna of Lafayette.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Rev. Mindy Huffman officiating. Interment will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2 at the funeral home.
