Trooper's death ruled natural causes

TERRE HAUTE -- A veteran state trooper found unresponsive in his bathroom Friday died of natural causes, the Vigo County Coroner has announced.

The autopsy on Indiana State Police Cpl. Michael J. Capicik was completed Saturday at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

The autopsy by Dr. Roland Kohr had previously been scheduled for Tuesday, December 31, 2013, but was moved to this afternoon.

Coroner Dr. Susan Amos has ruled the cause of death to be a heart attack and the manner of death as natural causes.

A friend found Capicik unresponsive in the bathroom of his Terre Haute home shortly after noon on Friday. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Capicik was scheduled to retire in January 2014 after 28 years of service with the ISP.

Funeral arrangements are pending, and will be made public as soon as they are finalized.
