Christina Evellyn Kivett, 98, Kokomo, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 at Fairmont Rehabilitation Center, Kokomo.

She was born in Coatesville on July 4, 1915, the daughter of the late William and Minnie (Harmon) Walton.

She was a lifelong resident of Coatesville until her last few years when she moved to Kokomo because of failing health.

On Feb. 11, 1940 she married Wayne Kivett, who preceded her in death on June 2, 2005.

She attended and graduated from Amo High School where she was valedictorian for her graduating class. Even though she was unable to continue her education, she worked in the local bank until 1940 and became quite proficient in bookkeeping.

From 1940-47 she worked for her grandfather in his plumbing and heating and general store business. In 1947 she and Wayne purchased the business and started a lifelong business serving the local area for more than 50 years.

In the 1960s Wayne entered the ministry and they became a husband-and-wife team for more than 40 years. Many lasting friendships were developed from that ministry.

Christina loved to write poetry. For many years she would add her own special poetic words to a Christmas or birthday card. Even after entering a nursing home she would still rhyme up some more words and put them on paper. She would say, "If I can't keep my mind active what else have I got?"

She is survived by her son, Lawrence (Marcia) Kivett; grandchildren Krystal (Travis) Kellett, Dawn (Greg) Justice, Tanya (Adam) Hatten and Lawrence, "Larry" (Stacie) Kivett Jr.; great-grandchildren Lindsey (Nathan) Newburn, Kelcey Kellett, Geoffrey, Duncan, Samantha, Kathryn, and Elizabeth Justice, Corey and Tyler Addison, Kyndal Hatten; Tristan and Makinna Kivett. She is also survived by a brother, Harold, "Bob" Walton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6 at Bousley-Hays Funeral Home, Coatesville, with Danny Sanders officiating.

Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Coatesville Cemetery.
