PCPL to hold MLK celebration

The Putnam County Public Library will be holding a community Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 1:30 -- 2:30 p.m.

The annual celebration features Civil Rights historian John Dittmer who will speak on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela, music by Blues Side Up featuring Jonathon January and Steve St Pierre and participation by Association of African American students Iesha Brookes and J'Nai Macklin.

Iesha will read an excerpt from King's "I See the Promised Land" speech, and J'Nai will perform the freedom songs, "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize" and "Woke Up in the Morning."

Blues Side Up will conclude the program with a performance, which will last a half hour.

A children's program with stories and activities will take place in the children's library during the program.

This event is free and open to the public.

The celebration will include music until 3 p.m.
