BAINBRIDGE -- At an eventful school board meeting last week the decision to cut non-certified employees' hours was made, but along with that the school board also made some changes in officers and moved forward on school projects.

The school board has decided to change up the order of things by electing Jill Summerlot as president of the school board.

Summerlot beat out former president John Hayes as a motion for him to continue as president died without a second. Also in a new position is Mark Hoke, taking up as school board vice president with Darrell Wiatt as secretary.

Another change can be seen at Roachdale Elementary as upgrades and renovation continue on the elementary school. Representatives from Johnson Melloh informed the board renovations are on schedule as crews work from 3:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, so as not to interrupt while school is in session.

The last hearing on the QZAB project for the middle school and high school was conducted. The project will help renovate the complex and help purchase new equipment.

Some of the improvements would include replacing the roof on the middle school, a new graphic design classroom including 21 new iMacs, reconfiguring the sciences labs at the middle and high school and new security cameras for both as well.

Snow make-up days were also announced. North Putnam School Corporation was granted a waiver from the state for two of the snow days accrued during the snowstorm that shut down most of the state.

The other three days will be made up on Monday, Feb. 17, Monday, April 21 and Thursday, May 29. The corporation has applied to have all five days waived, but has yet to has yet to hear if that was approved.

In personnel business:

-- Ashley Moeller has resigned as head cheerleading coach at North Putnam High School.

-- Cindy Huddleston was approved for retirement from North Putnam Middle School.

-- The school board also approved the hiring of several people for the athletic department: Greg Barrett as eighth-grade girls' basketball coach, Dustin Osborn as volunteer assistant eighth-grade girls' basketball coach and Shawn Tennis as seventh-grade girls' basketball coach.
