Saturday, January 25, 2014

CLAYTON -- The Greencastle JV boys' basketball team rode an aggressive full-court press combined with a half-court trap and defeated the Cascade Cadets 44-34 in WCC action Thursday evening.

Noah Cook opened the scoring with a 3-pointer for the young Tiger Cubs and that set the tone for the evening as Greencastle never trailed in the game.

The Cadets wouldn't back down, however, hitting a shot late in the quarter and only trailed 9-6 after one stanza.

The teams played relatively even in the second quarter and the Tiger Cubs led 21-17 at the break.

Ramping up the defensive pressure in the third quarter, GHS forced many turnovers that led to easy baskets and outscored CHS 13-6, taking a 34-23 lead into the final quarter.

The aggressive defense forced 20 Cadet turnovers and an amazing 52 deflections.

The teams traded baskets in the fourth leading to the final score of 44-34.
