Wind Chill Warning issued; government offices, schools announce closures, delays
A Wind Chill Warning has been issued for Putnam County and much of central Indiana.
Arctic air moving into Indiana is expected to bring the return of below-normal temperatures and wicked wind chills.
The Putnam County Courthouse and all county offices will be closed on Tuesday because of the expected extreme cold conditions.
Additionally, North Putnam Schools and Old National Trail Special Services will be closed on Tuesday.
As of 7:45 p.m., Cloverdale, Greencastle, South Putnam and Area 30 Career Center will operate under two-hour delays.
The coldest temperatures are expected to occur overnight into Tuesday morning. Low temperatures overnight are expected to range from -5 to -10 degrees with wind chills falling as low as -40, the National Weather Service said.
Besides Putnam, the following counties are under the warning: Parke, Hendricks, Montgomery, Morgan, Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, Clinton, Howard, Fountain, Boone, Tipton, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware, Randolph, Vermillion, Marion, Hancock, Henry, Johnson, Shelby and Rush.
The Wind Chill Warning will be in effect until 1 p.m. Tuesday, when it is to be replaced by a Wind Chill Advisory until noon Wednesday.
