PUTNAMVILLE --Troopers from the Putnamville Post have been busy responding to various calls for service during the snowstorm that began Tuesday and its aftermath.

Since 3 p.m. Tuesday through 3 p.m. Wednesday, troopers have responded to 15 property-damage crashes, one personal-injury crash, 15 slide-offs and 27 disabled motorists.

Property-damage accidents in the Putnamville District kept troopers busy Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, no serious or life-threatening injuries were reported.

The Putnamville District utilized all available manpower and canceled regular days off to ensure the safety of the motoring public during the most recent snowstorm. Troopers were divided into 12-hour day and 12-hour night shifts through Wednesday night.

The "trouble spots" were U.S. 41 in the Daily Hill area of Parke County and all along Interstate 70 from the Illinois state line to the 53-mile marker in Morgan County. That includes Putnam, Clay and Vigo counties as well.

At various times Wednesday, traffic was slowed or briefly stopped along I-70 for crash cleanup efforts.

The most frequent cause for the crashes and slide-offs were motorists driving too fast for conditions, a Putnamville spokesman said.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, follow other vehicles at a safe distance, avoid driver distractions, and use extreme caution while driving.

Currently I-70 is mostly wet with no problems or delays. Other state roadways within the district range from snow-covered to scattered slick spots. Secondary roads remain snow-covered slick and hazardous.

The Putnamville District is comprised of Putnam, Parke, Vermillion, Vigo, Clay and Sullivan counties.
