Tigers clinch share of NCAC with win over Gators

Top-ranked DePauw clinched at least a share of its third North Coast Athletic Conference title in as many years after topping visiting Allegheny, 91-40 on Friday.

The Tigers improved to 21-0 overall and 12-0 in the NCAC with its 55th straight overall win and 74th consecutive in the regular season. Allegheny slipped to 12-8 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Allegheny scored the game's first point, but DePauw scored the next 10 and quickly took control of the game. After the Gators knocked in a three-pointer, the Tigers were relentless with an Emma Ondik three-pointer, an Abby Keller layup and back-to-back treys from Lauren Abendroth and Ondik to push the lead to 21-4 with 13:01 left in the half.

The margin reached as many as 27 points before the Tigers headed to the intermission with a 45-20 advantage.

An 11-0 run at the start of the second half pushed the lead to 36 in the opening six minutes of the second half.

In all, 12 Tigers scored led by Ondik's 14 and Alex Gasaway's 13. Savannah Trees and Hannah Douglas each scored 12. Alison Stephens hauled down 14 rebounds, while Ondik dished out four assists and Gasaway totaled four steals.

Jessica Mrdjenovich paced Allegheny with eight points with Aubri Caslin grabbing four rebounds and Makenzie Zidek handing out four assists.

DePauw connected on 46.2 percent of its field goal tries to Allegheny's 29.8 percent. The Tigers also his 10 three-pointers and canned 21-of-22 free throws.

DePauw hosts Hiram Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
