Eagles lose tough one at Shortridge

Sunday, February 9, 2014

INDIANAPOLIS -- There was no repeat of last year's overtime win for South Putnam over Indianapolis Shortridge as the Blue Devils hammered the Eagles 94-42 Saturday night.

The hosts used a balanced offensive approach as all five starters were in double figures, led by Chris Adams' 20 points and seven assists and Josh Price's 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Blue Devils came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, leaving South Putnam in a 31-9 hole after the first quarter and led by 39 at halftime.

Shortridge shot better than 50 percent from the field during the contest, including a blistering 68 percent in the first half.

Foul trouble kept the hosts from finding a second-half rhythm after Price and Israel White both were disqualified midway through the third quarter.

While the Eagles had a far better showing in the frame, the visitors were still edged 16-14 in the period.

Leading 75-34 entering the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils closed the game on a 10-2 run, looking for a triple-digit score line but were denied the landmark score as time ran out.

Trey Moore led the Eagles with 19 points while Jacob Schroer added 11 points in the losing effort.
