Samuel A. McPherson, 72 Groveland, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014.

He was born Feb. 7, 1942 in Indianapolis to Emmett and Amanda Katherine Ray McPherson.

He graduated from George Washington High School.

Sam retired in 1985 after 20 years of being an Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) officer.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Greencastle Masonic Lodge 47, Phi Delta Kappa fraternity in Danville and the former Groveland Presbyterian Church.

He was a caring, loving man of his community that everyone who met him would look up to. He was an avid Indiana Hoosiers' fan, who also loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his sons, David (Terri) McPherson of Groveland, and Rick (Michelle) McPherson of Shelbyville; daughter Lynnette Walker of Indianapolis; brother Mick McPherson of Gosport; former spouse Linda McPherson; grandchildren who made him proud, Brandy Reynolds, Samantha (Bob) Robichaud, Matthew McPherson and Cameron McPherson; great-granddaughter Sierra Ballard and loving companion Rosie Zellers.

His parents, brother Kenneth McPherson and grandson Joshua McPherson, preceded him in death.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 in Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with burial to follow in Bainbridge Cemetery.

A Masonic service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with calling to begin at 11 a.m., continuing until the service time in the funeral home.
