GREENCASTLE -- Thursday night, the Northview Knights traveled to South Putnam to partake in a boys' basketball match up. The Knights used a big second half to win 68-52.

The Eagles (3-13 0-5 West Central) played a strong first half, keeping right up with the Knights (10-8 5-1 Western Indiana). Eagle senior Trey Moore pounded 14 of his team's 27 first half points.

"I thought we played well in the first half," Eagle coach Troy Burgess said, "They're big and strong and we had to give up something. We weren't just going to let them go to the inside. They ended up making threes and that is just hard to defend."

It was not until with under a minute left to go in the second that Northview got a big run. Up five, they took it to 11 by the half.

"Well, they turned up the pressure and Trey was on the bench," Burgess said, "That hurt us and when a team shoots 50-plus percent that is just hard to beat."

The Knights came out into the third and started right where they left off in the second. The ball rotation and inside looks were perfectly executed. They had 16 total assists.

"We're a team that has to work together," Northview coach Clint Weddle said, "We're not a team that is going to beat others off the dribble, but I thought they did a great job looking for each other."

The three-point shooting was also phenomenal for the Knights. They hit 10-of-20 for the night and sophomore Quinton Hayes hit 6-of-8 on his own.

"I really feel well that all our team contributed tonight," Weddle said, "I'm not sure whether we started inside or out, but it all came together and we are extremely lucky. The Eagles are a very good team and they played very hard the entire time."

The Eagles were unable to force turnovers and it was the opposite for Northview. The Eagles played very tidy in the first half, only committing three turnovers, but by the time it was over they had committed 12.

The bright spot for South Putnam was Moore, who had 24 points. Weddle said when Moore made up his mind, he was going to execute.

While Weddle was correct, foul trouble kept Moore off the floor for much of the second half and the Eagles were unable to hurt the Knights any further.

"A lot of the problem was he (Moore) couldn't do well in the second half because of fouls," Burgess said, "After his third we had to sit him and then he came in and picked up his fourth, which made it worse."

Eagles will travel to South Vermillion at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
