30 GHS Band members take part in solo, ensemble contest

On Saturday, Feb. 8, 30 students from Greencastle High School Band participated in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest at Terre Haute North High School.

The students received 12 gold ratings, and nine silver ratings.

Five of the GHS events in Group I received a gold rating and will participate in the State Solo and Ensemble Contest on March 1 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

The results are as follows:

GROUP III: Gold Rating: Lokysa Scheuermann, trumpet solo; Nicholas Seaman, trumpet solo; Woodwind Trio, Madison Trout, Lydia Trout, Gabby Selvia: Silver Rating: Alex Weliever, snare drum solo; Yugi Mozawa, baritone solo; Brass Trio, Nicholas Seaman, Yugi Mozawa, Braden Pershing.

GROUP II: Gold Rating: Mattia Seaman, horn solo; Shawn Lowe-Nally, trombone solo; Abby Walker, snare drum solo; Percussion Trio, Alex Dozier, Ethan Gill, Reggie Alex: Silver Rating: Kelly Hansen, baritone solo; Libby Brush, xylophone solo.

GROUP I: Gold Rating; Ichiro Mozawa, alto sax solo; Zach Wilerson, alto sax solo; Katie Rose Parsons, trumpet solo; Horn trio, Hannah Gellman, Melody White, Mattia Seaman; Bras Trio, Katie Rose Parsons, Carly Rhine, Mary Pearl Ivy; Silver Rating: Hannah Gellman, horn solo; Elijah Brattain, tenor sax solo; Abbie Harms, alto sax solo; Woodwind Quartet, Rebecca Moore, Kendra Sutherlin, Corrie Romer, Jessica Roberts.

The GHS Band will be having its Winter Concert on Monday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 in Parker Auditorium.

The band will be playing several selections from marches to overtures with the last number of the evening will be a medley of big band tunes.

The GHS band is under the direction of Robert Hedge.
