Top-ranked Tigers roll to Senior Day win

Top-ranked DePauw unveiled its 2013 NCAA championship banner and recognized the five seniors prior to tipoff so it was only fitting that the three starting seniors all scored in double figures and led the Tigers to an 80-47 North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon.

With the win, DePauw improved to 24-0 overall and 15-0 in NCAC play, while Kenyon dropped to 13-9 overall and 8-6 in conference play. The Tigers extended their win streak to 58 straight and their regular season string to 77.

Senior Alex Gasaway gave the Tigers the early boost as she scored 10 of the team's first 12 points and gave DePauw a 12-2 lead in the opening 4:09. That advantage quickly reached 14 at 16-2 after Hannah Douglas scored on a layup at the 14:54 mark.

Kenyon was within 12 with just under nine minutes left, but Gasaway converted a three-point play and Alison Stephens knocked in a three. The Ladies stopped the run with Maggie Boelter's three-pointer, but DePauw scored the next nine to stretch the margin to 23 on the way to a 41-18 halftime advantage.

Stephens opened the second half with a three-pointer before Gasaway converted another three-point play and Savannah Trees nailed a trey to make it 50-18 just 1:45 into the half. The lead reached as many 47 points midway through the half.

Gasaway matched a season high with 20 points and added a game-high eight rebounds. Ali Ross added 11 and Stephens followed with 10. Trees dished out a career-best six assists with no turnovers in the win. Sidney Cera led Kenyon with 10 points and five steals.

DePauw's five seniors (Gasaway, Ross, Stephens, Erin McGinnis and Ann Sarkisian) improved to 110-6 with the win. The 110 wins are second by a Division III senior class this year and the .948 winning percentage is the best in the nation.
