Tuesday, February 18, 2014

The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department will hold another event in its continuing Brickmania series with a Brickmania workshop scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 at Greencastle City Hall.

Youngsters are invited to come to City Hall, where the Park Department will have thousands of building blocks piled high on the floor for a free-building exercise.

Cost of the event is $2 per youth (to help purchase more Legos).

Kits will be available to allow participants to follow the instructions and build. There will also be displays and special layouts to view.

Brickmania kits from past builds and mini figures will be available for purchase.

All that is designed to stimulate the imagination, let youngsters enjoy time with other building block enthusiasts, and provide ideas for entering the March 6 Brickmania Challenge building contest.

Meanwhile, the Park Department reminds residents its annual Snow Sculpture Contest continues with an entry deadline of March 4. With all the snow this year the Park Department is hoping to see lots of entries.

Registration and complete sets of rules are available at Greencastle City Hall, the Putnam County Public Library, the Putnam County Museum, Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Park Firebaugh's Office, and online at www.city-ofgreencastle.com, then go to the Parks and Recreation link.

And lastly, residents can stay active this winter by joining the Putnam County Health Coalition program Walking Wednesdays and Fridays.

The group walks every Wednesday and Friday until Feb. 28 from 7-9 a.m. at the DePauw Indoor Tennis and Track facility.
