Brickmania Challenge time for Greencastle Park Department

Sunday, February 23, 2014

Time is approaching for Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department's annual Brickmania Challenge.

The contest is held every March at the Board of Park Commissioners meeting, which is set for Thursday, March 6.

Participants can use their creativity and design an original creation (MOC as in My Own Creation) or assemble a kit using their instructions. Special trophies will be awarded in each category:

Kits -- Judged in three categories, Youth, Teen and Adult.

MOC (original creations) -- Judged in four age categories, under 7 years of age; 8-12 years old; 13-17; and adult (18 and over).

MOC (original creations) -- Judged as family or organization entries.

Brickmaster -- All entries are eligible to be judged as Brickmaster.

Completed entries should be brought to Greencastle City Hall to be displayed all day, and then judged that evening.

Entries must be carried into City Hall between 3:30 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5 or between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6.

They will be judged at the Park Board meeting that evening between 7 and 7:30 with awards announced at the start of the 7:30 meeting.

Contest entry is free.

Meanwhile, the Park Department also will offer a special Brickmania Lego build -- O'Leary the Leprechaun -- on Wednesday, March 12 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The evening will also offer a chance to view special Lego displays and dioramas, the opportunity to free-build with the department's collection of building blocks piled high on the floor. St. Patrick's Day treats and drink will be included.

Build your own mini-figures, as well as leftover projects from past Brickmania builds will be available for purchase. The program is open to the first 12 participants with $10 paid registration.

Registration forms and a complete set of rules for this and other Greencastle Park and Recreation Department events are available at City Hall, Greencastle Pediatric Dentistry, the Putnam County Museum, the Putnam County Library, Dr. Park Firebaugh's dental office or on line at www.cityofgreencastle.com.
