Greencastle keeps moving forward with technology plan

Sunday, February 23, 2014

Due to hazardous road conditions on Monday night, the Greencastle School Board decided to play it safe and rescheduled its meeting for Thursday.

At the monthly meeting, Assistant Superintendent Jeff Hubble brought forward the next phase of the technology plan for Greencastle schools.

Teachers have been using their devices to become more knowledgeable about the equpment and applications that would be used. Hubble believes the teachers are enthusiastic about the devices and their uses.

Hubble informed the board that new access points and wiring will be added to the middle school, high school and McAnally Center. He believes the project should be completed before summer.

To save some money, the corporation will be wiring the middle school itself.

"Why aren't we doing the other two buildings ourselves as well?" school board member Denise Sigworth questioned.

Hubble and Director of Technology Cory Hill said that if that was to be done the plan would not be completed on time.

The board voted to continue moving forward with the technology plan as directed.

The board was also presented with information on the wellness program that is taking place amongst the staff at the Greencastle Community Schools.

Michelle Riehle an occupational therapist with the school is heading up the wellness program and is off to a great success. More than 69 percent of staff and administration has signed up for the program.

Riehle has put into effect several programs to not only motivate the staff of Greencastle to work on fitness, but also to help them relax and unwind from teaching. She hopes the program continues to grow and hopes to add more events in the future.

"We are looking to do set-up a 5K," Riehle said. "It might not happen this year. But there is one during May that we will have a team for."

The school board approved a contract with the Wabash Valley West Central Insurance, which was a formality to solidify Greencastle's place in the trust. They also approved the adjustments to the professional services contract with the Indiana State Department of Health.

The next Greencastle School Board meeting will be held on Monday, March 17 at 7 p.m.
