The DePauw women's basketball team rebounded after having its 58-game winning streak snapped last Saturday with a resounding victory over Wooster, 71-40 to begin the NCAC Tournament Tuesday.

DePauw seized control from the opening tip and never looked back. Blending fluid offense with a stifling defense, the Tigers were able to race out to a substantial lead and cruise into halftime with a 40-17 advantage.

Hannah Douglas and Alex Gasaway paced the Tigers in the first half with nine points each, with Savannah Trees adding eight.

DePauw head coach Kris Huffman noted it was nice to shack off Saturday's loss and get back on the court and doing the things her team does best.

"It was good to get another game going and get some different thoughts in our heads," Huffman said with a smile. "I liked the start up we had in the second half from a transition standpoint. I thought we got down and defended again to start the half and got our transition offense going, so I liked to see that intensity."

After the team emerged from their respective locker room, DePauw kept the pressure on the Fighting Scots and grew its lead. With a large lead, DPU was able to pull it's starting five and get some valuable court time for its second unit. DePauw's bench outscored Wooster 30-8 on the night.

"Our second unit, I thought, did a tremendous job," Huffman said. "Emma Ondik, Lauren Abendroth really set the tone in the guard court. We had Abby Keller and Erin McGinnis inside, so I thought did a nice job as a second five really holding the fort down."

Ondik led the Tigers in the second half with six points, followed by Abendroth and Alison Stephens with four points each. Overall, Douglas led the Tigers with a game-high 12 points, with Gasaway adding nine and Ondik and Trees adding eight each.

With all that went DePauw's way on Tuesday, Huffman still saw some areas where her team could improve upon going into Friday's NCAC semifinal.

"Consistency, I think," Huffman said. "Eighteen turnovers is too many and a lot of that was our last group that was in there had too many turnovers. We're only as good as our total roster, so we need to keep shoring that up and our ability to pass the basketball and handle the basketball."

With the win, the Tigers will host Kenyon in the semifinal contest. DePauw has two wins against Kenyon this season, winning 100-59 on Jan. 11 and 80-47 on Feb. 15.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
