Carol Kittle Stantz, 77, of Spencer, Ind., passed away March 1, 2014, at her home, with her family by her side, after an extended illness.

Carol was born March 10, 1936, in Clay City, the daughter of Israel "Curly" and Marjorie (Edmonson) Kittle.

She graduated from Clay City High School with the class of 1954. She also studied to be a lab technician from Elkhart University in Elkhart, Ind.

She was a founding member of Millgrove Bible Baptist Church and had served as treasurer for many years.

Carol was also one of the founding members of the Owen County ARC and volunteered at the Center for Women's Ministries in Spencer.

She married Howard Stantz on May 14, 1955. He preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2014.

They had four children, Tony Stantz and wife Cindy of Coatesville, Doris Anne Stantz, Jon Stantz and wife Lisa of Spencer, and Gerald (Gary) Stantz of Brazil.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rachel Stantz, Caitlin Stantz, Scott Stantz and wife Sarah Jo, Laura Stantz, Sarah Grace Stantz and Kyle Stantz; great-grandchildren, Trevor Collisi, Madelyn Stantz, Nolan Stantz, Cooper Stantz, Isabell Reinert; brothers Keith Kittle and wife Connie of Brazil, and Conrad Kittle and wife Pam of Clay City; sister Kathy Gibson and husband Jim of Florida, as well as many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Israel "Curly" and Marjorie Kittle; her daughter, Doris Anne Stantz; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Sue Stantz.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, with Bro. David Voorhees officiating. Burial will follow at Sink Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of services.
