County Jail

Several persons were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 11:44 a.m. on Friday, Ashlee Erin Nelson, 32, Greencastle, was arrested for theft.

At 1:15 p.m., Cedric Austin Craig, 28, Indianapolis, was charged with a probation violation and operating while intoxicated.

At 2:10 p.m., Kyle Lee Doolin, 21, Reelsville, was charged with probation violation and residential entry.

At 11:04 p.m., Sean Nathan Jones, 27, Fillmore, was charged with failure to appear, reckless driving, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

At 9:31 p.m., Donald Lee Shoemaker, 42, Greencastle, was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.

* At 1:44 a.m. on Saturday, Alexandria Kay Parsons, 24, Mooresville, was charged with operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

* At 12:10 a.m. on Monday, Donald Schmidt, 31, no address listed, was charged with nonsupport of a dependent and contempt of court.

At 10:32 a.m., John Arthur Kruger, 61, Greencastle, was charged with operating while intoxicated with a prior.

At 7:06 p.m., David Baker, 24, Terre Haute, was charged with driving on a suspended license.

At 7:50 p.m., James Alexander Icenogle, 58, Indianapolis, was charged with operating while intoxicated and a habitual traffic violator.

At 9:16 p.m., Troy Chastain Strader, 24, Greencastle, was arrested on a probation violation.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 10:45 p.m. on Friday, James D. McGonigal, 54, Lehigh Acres, Fla., was southbound on U.S. 231 near County Road 950 North.

Sgt. Craig Sibbitt reported that McGonigal left the roadway on the east shoulder and appeared to have struck the guardrail or bridge rail.

After hitting the guardrail, McGonigal's 2004 Pontiac Grand Am entered the southbound lane of traffic and came to final rest, disabled.

McGonigal told Sibbitt that he lost control attempting to avoid a vehicle that appeared to be in his lane of travel. He was later lodged in the Putnam County Jail for operating while intoxicated.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 2:38 a.m. on Sunday, Sarah Cole, 22, Mount Vernon, Ill., was eastbound on Interstate 70 at approximately the 34-mile marker.

Due to the freezing rain and the slick surface, Cole lost control of her 2005 Ford Escape, which left the roadway on the south shoulder.

Cole advised Lt. Dwight Simmons that after leaving the roadway she struck a guardrail and continued into a ditch, coming to rest on the vehicle's passenger side.

Due to extremely slick road conditions the vehicle was not towed at the time of the crash due to safety reasons.

Cole and her passenger were transported to Putnam County Hospital and released.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

At 5 a.m., Randall L. McMullian, 48, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 200 East, approaching a 90-degree left corner.

McMullian told Cpl. Josh Boller that another vehicle was also attempting to drive through the corner northbound and the headlights blinded him, causing his 1998 Ford Taurus to go off the roadway, striking a fence and a gate.

His vehicle then came to rest up against the fence.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

At 11:25 a.m., Amanda D. Napier, 22, Marion, was northbound on Heritage Drive.

Napier advised Reserve Officer Ken Rozelle that she was traveling at the posted speed limit of 35 mph, and while negotiating a corner the rear of her 2006 Chrysler Pacifica began sliding, causing her to lose directional control.

Napier slid off the roadway on the east side and traveling approximately 100 feet before striking a parked 2005 Cadillac, owned by Joe Ellen McAuley at 267 Lincoln Hills.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 10:07 a.m. on Monday, Sky M. Frederick, 25, Poland, was traveling on U.S. 231 South near County Road 900 South.

Frederick told Deputy Tyler Turner his 1998 Chevrolet van rear-ended Heather F. Speedy, 24, Cloverdale, while she was waiting for the left turn lane signal to change at U.S. 231 and County Road 900 South.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 6:20 p.m. Monday, Dustin Martin Tippin, 38, Greencastle, was stopped by at North Indiana Street and Shadowlawn Avenue for driving on a suspended license.

Officer Kyle Lee lodged Tippin in the Putnam County due to repeated violations of driving on a suspended license.

-- At 5:11 p.m. Friday, Jeffrey Robert Adkins, 26, Greencastle, was arrested at the Greencastle Police Department.

Adkins was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a Clay County warrant for failure to appear in court on an original charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Meanwhile, at 11:55 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Charles Inman stopped a vehicle driven by Blake Garland, 21, Martinsville, at Jackson and Washington streets and cited both the driver and his passenger.

Garland was cited for having no license plate on his vehicle as well as for reckless possession of paraphernalia.

A passenger in the Garland car, Tori Hostetler, 19, Monrovia, was cited and will reportedly be summoned into court for being a minor in consumption of alcohol.

One minor property-damage accident was investigated Tuesday morning at the entrance to Round Barn Manor apartments on the city's East Side.

Jennifer Lehman, 39, Greencastle, was reportedly stopped at the stopped at Horseshoe Drive and Round Barn Road when her 2001 Chrysler Sebring was struck from behind by a 1997 Jeep Cherokee driven by Luke Skelton II, 17, Greencastle.

Capt. Mike Hanlon said Skelton's vehicle slid on the slick pavement as he attempted to stop, striking the Lehman car and resulting in an estimated $1,000-$2,500.
