Jill Bridgewater has announced her candidacy for the District 2 seat on the Putnam County Council on the Republican ballot in the May 6 primary election.

With a bachelor's degree in accounting, Bridgewater has more than 20 years of accounting experience and believes that would be a plus in serving on the Council.

"The County Council's major responsibility is approving the annual operating budget of all county offices and departments," she said. "As a County Council member, my accounting experience would be an asset for the budget hearings held during the third quarter each year.

"I am interested in serving Putnam County," Bridgewater added, "because I want to be able to give back to the community where I live and have invested so much of my life. I appreciate the encouraging words and offers of support that I have already received."

Bridgewater was born and raised in Greencastle and is the youngest daughter of Joe Fogle and Nancy Fogle. She has four siblings, three of whom also live in Greencastle.

The candidate has been married to Brian Bridgewater, a South Putnam graduate, for 22 years. They have two daughters, Lauren and Lindsey, both students at Greencastle High School.

"My mother, Nancy Fogle, served as a County Council member for 14 years and was a year and a half short of completing her first term as a county commissioner when she passed," Bridgewater said.

"My mother was committed and dedicated to the public offices that she held. She had a love of people and this community, I share that some love."

She has been involved with various Parent Teacher Organizations and the Greencastle Civic League, and is a member at Greencastle Christian Church.

" I have heard for years that we need younger people in our community to get involved. Someone was needed to step up and run from District 2, and I believe this would be a great opportunity for me to serve Putnam County," she noted.
