Tiger men's lacrosse downed by Titans

The Tiger's men's lacrosse team was taken down by the visiting Illinois Wesleyan Titans Thursday night, under the lights of Boswell Field, by a final score of 17-13.

With the win, Illinois Wesleyan improved to 5-0, while DePauw dropped to 2-3.

The Titans dominated the first two quarters taking a 10-4 lead into halftime. Michael Julius opened the scoring with 11:45 remaining on an unassisted goal. Illinois Weslayan added another goal just 39 seconds later. They would score six goals in the first quarter led by Tyer Rauwolf, who had two goals.

DePauw got on the board with 7:04 remaining in the first when Robert Lapp found the net on an unassisted strike. Lapp would add another goal on an assist from Richard McGowan with 4:49 left in the first. Sam Alkema would close out the first quarter scoring on an assist from Ned Hartfiel with 2:22 on the clock.

In the second period the Titans outshot the Tigers 13-9 and outscored DePauw 4-1. Alkema scored the Tigers' only goal on an unassisted shot with 3:50 left in the half.

Illinois Wesleyan scored the first goal in the third quarter when Max Porter scored on an unassisted goal with 10:19 in the third. DePauw would answer when Sam Caravana would score on an assist from Lapp with 7:14 on the clock.

The Titans would score the next four goals in the third, stretching the lead to 15-5. From that point onward it was all DePauw. The Tigers scored the final three goals of the quarter on tallies from Grant Skipper, Lapp and Alkema, while Hartfiel provided an assist.

DePauw would mount a strong comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring two goals in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. Lapp and Eric Speer would score goals within an 18 second span cutting the deficit to five. The Titans stretched the lead to 16-10 on a goal by Perry Jacob with 12:43 left.

Caravana, Adam Bridges and Hartfiel would tally fourth quarter goals, but it wasn't enough for DePauw as they fell by a final score of 17-13. McGowan, Lapp and Alkema provided assists for the Tigers' final three goals.
