City Police

Two Putnam County residents were arrested Thursday evening when the vehicle they were traveling in was found to have been stolen from Indianapolis, Greencastle City Police reported.

Arrested at 7:43 p.m. and booked into the Putnam County Jail were Frederick Buttery Jr., 39, Russellville, and Jennifer Marie Burns, 21, Greencastle. They were held on charges of receiving stolen property, a Class D felony.

Burns was initially stopped and ticketed by Officer Kyle Lee for driving with a suspended license.

Officer Lee tried to stop the 1997 Jeep Wrangler on Judson Drive but Burns reportedly went around the corner and turned into a driveway on Meadow Lane.

When Lee ran the plate on the Jeep, it came back as being reported stolen to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on March 3.

The suspects claimed they were buying the Jeep from someone named Jeff but had no bill of sale or other documentation, police said.

Sheriff's Dept.

One property-damage accident was investigated recently by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Spencer B. Bullock, 23, Minden, La., was eastbound on Interstate 70 near the 44-mile marker when the trailer he was pulling with a 2008 Ford Econoline van veered left and struck a vehicle that was parked in the median off the shoulder of the roadway.

Bullock told Sgt. Gregg Slover he did not see the 2007 Chrysler 300 owned by Juan M. Swanson of Indianapolis, which was off the roadway waiting on a wrecker.

Bullock traveled approximately a mile east before the vehicle became disabled due to two flat tires on the left side of the trailer, owned by U-Haul of Minden, La.

Total damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
