West Central Conference releases top winter sports conference competitors

The West Central Conference named its all-conference players for the winter sports of 2013-2014.

Coach Kent Menzel led his Greencastle girls' swim team to the top spot with 388 points beating out Cascade with 371.

Greencastle swimmers Mallary Meyer, Corrine Romer, Amelia Smith and Emily Wheeler took all-conference in the 200 medley relay.

Meyer and Wheeler took the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, respectively, while Smith won in the 50 freestyle.

For Cascade Tori Breeding was named in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

Hayley Rosales was confirmed for both the 200 individual medley and the 100 fly.

Kaitlyn Breeding was named with Tori, along with Rosales and Kristi Deweese in the 200 freestyle relay for Cascade and in the 400 freestyle it was Tori Breeding, Rosales, Dewesse and Alexis Brown.

Katie Jo Beasley was the sole conference winner for South Putnam High School in the 500 freestyle medley.

Greencastle swimming took boys' conference as well with 374. Greencastle's 200 medley of Elijah Brattain, Nash Firebaugh, Nathan Gardner and Taylor Secrest, their 200 freestyle team of Secrest, Brant Mangrum, Jacob Kessler and Isaac Harms, as well as their 400 freestyle team with Brattain, Firebaugh, Gardener and Mangrum all made the all-conference team.

Brattain made the WCC conference team in the 100 and the 200 freestyle as did Firebaugh in the 50 freestyle and the 100 fly.

Dane Gray of North Putnam was named for the individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

Tyler Neumann of South Putnam was named the all-conference diver and Griffin Crum of Cascade was named in the 500 freestyle relay.

The WCC crown in wrestling went to coach Josh Hendrickson and the South Putnam Eagles.

They had six wrestlers named to the All-WCC conference including Nick Owen (113), Jacob Lorimer (132), Joe Waters (160), Kyle Schaffer (182), Rudy Harris (1950 and Jacob Williams (220). Greencastle's Riley Cook and Aaron Langdon earned the honor in the 106 and 170 classes, respectively.

Cascade had four wresters honored. They were Hunter Fox at 120, Zach Batts at 145, Casey Fox at 152, and Lukas Stoutenour in the 285.

Rowen Gast-Bray at 126 and Trevor Ellis at 138 were named for Monrovia.

Cascade's girls' basketball team was the best in the WCC, going 5-0 in the conference. Roxanna Gaddis, Sydney Stein and Hayden Stinnett were named to the all-conference team for the Cadets.

For Cloverdale, Bailee Stevens got the honors, while Greencastle's Alex Basile, Jessica Lenihan, Callan Taylor were named. Monrovia had Raven Delph, Bailee Keen and Kristal Smith named. North Putnam's Madison Asbell, BethanyWiatt and Taylor Nauert were named.

Boys' basketball saw Cloverdale take the WCC title with a 5-0 conference record with Marquise Moore, Cooper Neese and Brantson Scott getting the All-WCC honors.

Greencastle's Brady Bollman and Holden King were recognized as was Logan Hale of Monrovia.

Hayden Suter and Colton Jones were named for Cascade and North Putnam's Shane Beaman, Bennett Hazelgrove and Jordan Nauert were named.

Trey Moore was the only All-WCC named from South Putnam.
