Willie Gene Taylor, 84, Poland, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Putnam County Hospital with his family at his side.

He was born Aug. 8, 1929 in Reelsville to Roy and Zelda (Diel) Taylor.

Willie graduated from Reelsville High School in 1947, and married Esther Best on May 2, 1951. She survives.

He retired from the Local Labor Union 204 after 66 years of service, and volunteered his time with the Indiana Baptist Assembly Youth Camp.

Willie was a member of Big Walnut Missionary Baptist Church, enjoyed going out to eat and visiting friends and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchildren Clorissa and Adam Taylor and great-grandson Jesse Sellers.

Survivors Include his wife, Esther Best Taylor, Poland; sons Willie E. Taylor, Greencastle, and Ed (Connie) Taylor, Cloverdale; daughter Connie Jo Aker, Poland; brothers James (Eleanor) Taylor, Indianapolis, Robert (Joan) Taylor, Greencastle, and Ben Taylor, Greencastle; five grandchildren, Johninda Sellers, Malachi Vaughan, Nathan Aker, Nicole Halstead and Cameron Aker; great-granddaughters Sevyn Sellers, Nakyhia Vaughan, Malia Halstead and Jacie Vaughan; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home, Brazil, with Dr. James Walter officiating and burial to follow at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery near Greencastle.

The family will accept friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
