Ocie Lureda Staggs

Ocie Lureda Staggs, 80, Pittsboro, and formerly of Brazil, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis.

She was born Nov. 20, 1933 in Parke County, the daughter of Homer and Malinda Martin Phipps.

She married Randall Hollis Staggs on Oct. 11, 1981 in Greencastle.

She worked as a seamstress, worked at Mallory Corp. in Greencastle for many years, at TechnoTrim in Greencastle and Chlo-R-Mop in Danville.

She graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1951

She was a member of Lena Methodist Church and Greencastle Chapter 255 Order of Eastern Star

Survivors include a son, Thomas Alexander (Christina) Dunedin, Fla.; three daughters, Malinda Waters (Donald) and Leslie Jane Baldwin (Gary), both of Pittsboro, and Donna Michelle Price Little (Mike Dales), Ashboro, N.C.; three stepchildren, 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Phipps, Bainbridge, Mike Phipps and Norman Dale Phipps, both of Greencastle; and three sisters, Elsie B. Ooley (John), Bloomington, Carrie L. Hartman (Jack), Terre Haute, and Mary Ann Turner (Raeburn), Muncie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Estella Cole Phipps; husband; and three brothers, Floyd Eugene Phipps, Homer Earl Phipps and James Phipps.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, Rockville, with Rev. Don Black officiating.

Visitation is set for 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 28 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville.
