Greencastle High School will send four teams to the 27th annual Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) Academic Super Bowl, while North Putnam will have one in state competition following the regional contest this week at GHS.

The North Putnam Interdisciplinary team will join the GHS English, Social Studies, Science and Interdisciplinary teams in Class 3 state competition Saturday, May 10 at Purdue University.

Greencastle is only one of four schools across the entire state in any class qualifying four teams for state competition this year.

Kathryn Dory serves as the overall Academic Super Bowl coordinator for Greencastle, which has a history of sending teams to the state finals dating back to the first year in 1987.

Since then GHS has won at least 14 state titles overall, including capturing two championships last year when the Tiger Cubs won both the English and Interdisciplinary contests. Those units return to compete as defending state champs on May 10.

The 2013 English championship team returns in tact for the 2014 competition and has again posted the best score in the state (22 out of 25 questions) in the regional competition.

Members of the GHS English team, coached by GHS teacher Nicole Kempf, are Hannah Gellman, Lily Spencer, Zach Wilkerson and Kelly Hansen. They will compete against Boone Grove, Garrett, Paoli, Taylor and Eastern (Pekin) high schools.

The Cougars will vie with Milan, Tell City, Gary Andrean, Park Tudor and Greencastle for the title.
