Cloverdale golfers get decisive win against Monorvia

Friday, April 25, 2014

MONROVIA -- The Cloverdale boys' Golf team took on Monrovia Thursday, at Deer Creek. They handled the match well winning 186-242.

"Monrovia is a young, inexperienced team," said Clover coach Doug Wokoun. They have a good coach and will make progress, but it will take time."

While they didn't shoot statistically their best game, the Clovers do move to 4-1.

They were led, with a team low of 35, by Rylan Mattocks.

"We are in some kind of funk right now and our biggest enemy is ourselves," Wokoun said. "Good shots are followed by bad shots, or good holes are offset by bad holes.

There is just no consistency and our confidence is down."

Though they have a winning record Wokoun says the team is very much looking forward better play, as the teams get tougher later in the season.

"I believe we have a group that can be pretty competitive with most teams, but we are having trouble putting the pieces of the puzzle into any coherent organization," Wokoun said. "We just have to keep battling and find a solution."

Cloverdale will take on their rival North Putnam on Monday at Twin Bridges.
