No. 11 Tigers women's tennis team wins third consecutive NCAC Title, into NCAA tourney

The 11th-ranked Tigers women's tennis team completed an impressive three-day run through the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament and captured their third straight NCAC title with a 6-0 victory over 26th-ranked Denison.

The Tigers improved to 18-4 and earned the conference's automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship. DePauw will appear in the national tournament for the 10th straight year and 13th overall.

Denison finished the regular season with an 11-9 mark.

DePauw's third doubles team of Julie Wittwer and Kaitlin Pickrel came off the court first after topping Heather Abzug and Eleni Colenman by an 8-1 count before Meg Crowley and Claire Marshall topped Meg Chiumento and Sarah Torrence at second doubles, 8-4.

The top doubles duo of Caroline Emhardt and Maggie MacPhail improved to 29-5 on the season and completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 victory over Kelsey Geppner and Taylor Hawkins.

Emhardt made it 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Abzug to move to 20-3 on the season before Wittwer sealed the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Torrence at sixth singles.

MacPhail completed the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Geppner at first singles.

During the three-day stretch the Tigers didn't lose a singles or doubles match in outscoring its three opponents, 16-0.

The NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship field will be announced on Monday, May 5.
