It was a chilly day at South Putnam but the play on the baseball diamond kept the crowd into the game. The rain faded away and the game came down to the last inning but the Eagles fell short losing to Riverton Parke 5-4.

South Putnam hopped out to a 2-1 lead when Joe Waters and Tyler Long crossed the plate after a Brandon Gierke single.

The Panthers we able to tie the score at 2-2. Up until the fourth inning the score remained tied but Riverton Parke took the lead scoring three runs at the top of the fourth. Errors hurt the Eagles but they rallied. Wyatt Nees was able to make it home after his single in the fourth inning and Grady McHugh knocked one out of the park in the fifth to bring South Putnam with one run.

"We've hit the ball well these last few weeks," South Putnam coach Zach Love said. "We just had trouble stringing them together tonight."

The homer was the last score of the night as Riverton Park played good defense to seal the game.

"We're disappointed," Love said. "We struggled. We definitely gave them too many opportunities. Riverton took advantage of those opportunities and we floundered some opportunities."

Love went on to say that the Eagle team will be fine when they learn to focus for a full seven innings. They travel to Tri-West on Monday.

"A big thing for us is staying mentally focused every single at-bat and every single pitch. So hopefully this is a learning experience for them," said Love.
