Greencastle track travels to Edgewood, girls get victory

ELLETSVILLE -- In their final meet of the regular season, Greencastle's track and field squads split a pair of meets with Northview and hosts Edgewood Tuesday night.

The girls' team knocked off Edgewood 71-66.50-29.50, with Northview finishing third.

"We got some good results tonight," Greencastle coach Garry Anderson said. "We didn't do as well as we wanted to in the field events but Alex Stoffregen had a good meet.

"Brittany Welker also had a good meet and we had several good performances out of the girls."

Katerina King led the assault, winning the 100 and 200-meter dashes, along with the long jump.

Corrie Romer and Jessica Lenihan picked up the other individual wins, with Romer winning the 400-meter dash and Lenihan topping the shot put.

The Tiger Cubs were boosted with three relay wins from the 400-meter team of King, Bailey Lausee, Erica Hoagland and Sarah Miller, the 1600-meter ream of Romer, Allison White, Brittany Welker and Alex Stoffregen and the 3200-meter team of Stoffregen, Katie Haynes, Brittany Love and Abby King.

In the boys' meet, the host Mustangs held off a determined push from Northview, winning 69.50-65-34.50, with Greencastle finishing third.

"We knew coming in that Edgewood was very, very tough and was ranked in the top 20 in the state at one point," Anderson said. "They've got guys that have pretty darn good times.

"We can't compete with those times right now. We don't have the talent right now to push them, but it was still a good meet."

Isaac Harms claimed the Tiger Cubs' sole win for the boys, winning the 1600-meter run and grabbing second in the 800-meter run.

Other second place finishes went to Sedrick Weinschenk in the 110-meter hurdles and Elijah Williams in shot put, closely followed in third by teammate Austin Mitchell, and the 3200-meter relay team of Harms, Jacob Crawley, Taylor Secrest and Braden Pershing.
