County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 5:21 p.m. on Monday, Kerry Lynn Saltzman, 19, Indianapolis, was charged with minor consumption.

At 12 p.m., Robert Eugene Tobin III., 33, Ladoga, was arrested for nonsupport of a dependent and failure to appear.

* At 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Ricky Maurice Thomas Jr., 19, Indianapolis, was arrested on a probation violation and possession of marijuana.

At 4:05 p.m., Christopher Scott Carpenter, 45, Greencastle, was arrested for failure to appear.

At 4:46 p.m., Brandon Clay Hackney, 27, Bedford, was charged with a probation violation.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 6:16 p.m. on Monday, Wren R. Miethe, 19, Roachdale was traveling northbound on County Road 200 East when she approached a 90-degree turn to the left at County Road 440 North.

Miethe advised Deputy Mike Downing that she observed Jerod W. Tincher, 30, Bainbridge, approaching from the north and she swerved her 2007 Chevrolet Impala to the right to avoid Tincher's 1980 Chevrolet C-10. but was too late and struck the vehicle in the driver's side front.

Miethe came to rest left of center and in the southbound lane facing north.

Tincher advised Downing that he had just turned south at the 90-degree turn and Miethe was in his lane. He swerved to the right to avoid a collision, but was too late and was struck in the driver's side front.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to multiple dispatches throughout the county and six medical assists this week.

* At 8:13 p.m. on Friday, May 2, GFD was dispatched to 807 S. College St. for a fire alarm. The alarm had been triggered by a discharged fire extinguisher, no fire was present upon arrival.

* At 8:18 p.m. on Friday, May 2, GFD was called to the neighboring address for a fire alarm, no fire was found.

* At 8:42 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, GFD was called to 820 S. Tennessee St. for an unauthorized burn. It was determined that the fire was a recreational fire, GFD explained fire ordinances and allowed the fire to continue.

* At 9:37 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, GFD was dispatched to 612 Howard St. for an unauthorized burn. City ordinances were explained and the fire was allowed to remain.

* At 11:10 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 109 W. Hanna St. The alarm had been triggered by cooking.
