The Putnam County 4-H Horse and Pony judging teams have had a successful competition season this spring.

The program is represented by the senior team of Bailey Goff, Taylor Hicks, Megan Arnold and Adie Clifford.

The junior team is composed of Whitney Boswell, Bree Mahoney Sutherland, Kayla Evans and Sonora Erwin.

The first contest was an invitational event March 16 at Western Boone High School where the junior team took third overall and the senior team was sixth in addition to a third-place finish in the reasons division.

The next competition was April 12 at the Area 5 contest in Vermillion County where the junior team placed third and the senior team took first place with each of the four senior members placing in the top 5 individually.

Both teams qualified to continue to the State Horse and Pony Judging Contest held in Danville on Saturday, May 3 where the junior team placed eighth and the senior team captured sixth.

Senior member Bailey Goff earned a top-10 finish, placing eighth overall.

"I am very proud of the hours of practice and hard work these girls have put in over the past eight months," coach Lisa Pitts said. "They are a smart, talented and dedicated group."

The hard work continues for the seniors as they plan to compete at the Youth Paint World Horse Judging Contest June 29 in Fort Worth.

To participate in the national competition, the team is conducting several fundraisers in the next month, to cover the expenses of the trip, starting with a free-will spaghetti supper open to the public Monday, May 12 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the York Community Building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Additionally, the team plans a yard sale June 13-14 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds and car wash (date and location TBA).

Persons may contact coach Lisa Pitts at 653-2471 for more information.
