County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 2 a.m. on Friday, William Christopher Spears, 30, Greencastle, was arrested for theft and criminal trespassing.

At 10:15 a.m., Keith Allen Shepherd, 37, Greencastle, was charged with a probation violation and residential entry.

At 8:27 p.m., Rebecca Lynne Shank, 44, Poland, was arrested for check deception.

* At 3:56 a.m. on Saturday, Ryan Edward Farrow, 31, Greencastle, was arrested for battery resulting in bodily injury.

* At 10:14 p.m. on Sunday, Justin Andrew Grever, 20, Cloverdale, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and minor consumption.

* At 3:06 a.m. on Monday, James Jason Campbell, 35, Cloverdale, was arrested for operating while intoxicated with a prior and a probation violation.

At 9:30 a.m., Robert Henry Fetters, 41, Indianapolis, was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury.

At 10:55 a.m., James K. McNew, 47, Greencastle, was arrested for harassment.

At 11:45 a.m., Kristopher Brian Smith, 31, Avon, was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

At 7:30 p.m., Quan Pham, 38, Greencastle, was arrested for domestic battery.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 6:27 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, Larry R. Seybold, 57, Marshall, was northbound on County Road 150 West in a 2002 Audi A6.

Seybold told Cpl. Josh Boller he sideswiped Mark D. Harbin, 52, Carbon, who was southbound on County Road 150 West in a 2003 Chevrolet Tracker. However, Seybold did not give a reason why he crossed the center part of the roadway.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

At 7:55 a.m., Kyla M. Adkins, 16, Poland, was stationary at the intersection of U.S. 231 and U.S. 40 at the flashing light in a 2003 Chrysler Sebring.

Adkins advised Boller the sun was distracting her when she attempted to cross the center in an eastbound direction when John W. Peterson, 34, Quincy, struck her in the driver's side passenger rear door.

Peterson noted that he was southbound, approaching the light when Adkins started to cross U.S. 231 heading east.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 9:04 a.m. on Friday, Delia Moreno, 39, Indianapolis, was northbound on State Road 243, just south of U.S. 40.

Moreno told Deputy Ronnie Campbell that she came into a right turn a little too fast for the wet roads and lost control of her 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, hitting the bridge guardrail.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 12:32 a.m. on Saturday, Vernon L. Ridgway, 37, Cloverdale, was northbound on Meridian Line Road just north of County Road 1000 South when the vehicle veered to the right of the roadway into a ditch.

Lt. Dwight Simmons stated that the right front tire of the 2008 Chevrolet 3500 was ripped from the suspension, rendering the vehicle inoperable.

Ridgway was found to be intoxicated but uninjured. He was then transferred to the Putnam County Jail for operating while intoxicated.

After being given a certified breath test, Ridgway had a blood-alcohol content of .10 percent.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 5:03 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, Carri R. Harrison, 40, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 300 West nearing County Road 550 South when her 2012 Mitsubishi veered off the east side of the roadway into the ditch.

Harrison advised Sgt. Jon Chadd that she struck a mailbox at 5731 S. C.R. 300 West, owned by John Martin, before continuing a short distance in the ditch and turning over on the driver's side.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

One recent accident was investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

* At 6:23 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Washington Street, near its intersection with Bloomington Street.

Clayton Moore, 23, Greencastle, was northbound on Bloomington Street, turning his 2005 Chevrolet Silverado left onto Washington on a green light when his vehicle was struck by an eastbound 1996 Saturn, driven by Jacob Neumann, 25, Greencastle.

Neumann told Capt. Mike Hanlon that he did not see that the light had changed as he approached the intersection and went through on a red light.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has been dispatched to a variety of incidents and has performed three medical assists.

* At 4:41 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, GFD responded to a false alarm at 1024 E. CR 25 South.

* At 7:14 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, GFD were called to 304 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm that was determined to have been triggered due to cooking.

* At 12:49 p.m. and 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, GFD were dispatched to 208 E. Olive St. to investigate a fire alarm. The alarms were triggered from a hairdryer and curling iron but GFD also determined that the fire alarm needed cleaning. GFD cleaned the alarm with an air can.

* At 7:19 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, GFD responded to an unauthorized burn at 1009 Avenue C. Upon arrival GFD found a citizen burning trash, the fire was extinguished.

* At 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, GFD were dispatched to a fire alarm at 2200 E. State Road 240. The alarm had been triggered but no fire was detected.

* At 8:03 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, GFD were sent to a fire alarm at 1542 Bloomington St. for a fire alarm. The alarm had been triggered due to a power outage.

* At 8:52 p.m. on Monday, May 12, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. The alarm was triggered by a hot curling iron.

* At 8:47 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, GFD responded to a hazmat incident at 405 Bloomington St. There had been a chemical leak in the conditioning room at the community pool. GFD neutralized the chemical using soot ash.
