Brazil Concert Band set to perform Sunday

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, will present "Saving a Marionette, a Gypsy and Mr. Banks" Sunday June 8, beginning at 8 p.m. in Forest Park at Brazil, rain or shine.

The BCB is "wired" to debut a new purchase of Charles Gounod's classic "Funeral March of a Marionette," arranged by Stephen Squires which will remind listeners of the old Alfred Hitchcock TV program.

Julie Styne and Stephen Sondheim's Broadway hit "Gypsy" will fill the park with "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Small World," "You'll Never Get Away From Me" and "Together Wherever We Go."

This past winter brought us the Disney movie "Saving Mr. Banks" which included composers Richard and Robert Sherman, so the BCB will dust off "Highlights From Mary Poppins" to include "A Spoonful Of Sugar," "Chim Chim Cher-ee," "Stay Awake" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" in a setting by Alfred Reed.

Lovers of American pop culture will enjoy "Tijuana Brass In Concert" arranged by Ted Ricketts, "Salute to The Cinema" arranged by Carl Strommen and "Big Band Signatures" arranged by John Higgins.

March fans will enjoy "Army Of The Nile" by Kenneth Alford and a pair of John Philip Sousa marches, "The Federal" and "The Pathfinder Of Panama."

Also by Sousa, and new this year for the BCB, is "Songs of Grace and Songs of Glory," which Sousa especially prepared for his own bands when they performed Sundays to include "Nearer My God to Thee" as played at President Garfield's funeral.
